Can one AI agent handle WhatsApp, Instagram and the web at the same time?

WhatsApp and the web, yes, and your email too: it is the same digital employee behind all three, answering from a single body of knowledge, so a fact corrected once stays corrected everywhere. Instagram, not yet: the connection is built and is waiting on Meta's review.

Not three systems: the same employee at three doors

A OnePeak digital employee is not created "for WhatsApp" or "for the website": it is created once, with its instructions —who it is, what tone it uses, what it must not do— and its knowledge —services, prices, hours, catalog—, and then connected to the channels where the business works. The chat on your own page, WhatsApp and email are different doors into the same digital employee.

The opposite is what you see most: an automated WhatsApp chat from one vendor, a web chat from another, and emails answered by hand whenever somebody gets around to it. Three tools are three places to load the information, three places to forget to update it and three different ways of answering the same question.

What about Instagram? The connection is built and works just like the WhatsApp one, but to read and answer direct messages Meta requires its app review, and that review has not finished yet. Until it does, Instagram cannot be connected, and we do not announce a date we do not control: the up-to-date status lives on the Instagram page linked at the end of this article.

One single memory of the business

Because the knowledge is one, the correction is one too. If a price changes, it is corrected in the employee's knowledge and it is corrected across every channel at once: there is no window where WhatsApp already quotes the new price and the website still quotes the old one.

This weighs more than it seems, because the typical AI agent error is not inventing from nothing: it is repeating an old fact that stayed loaded. With one copy of the knowledge per channel, that risk multiplies by the number of copies; and the copy somebody forgot to update is precisely the one answering, with total confidence, a fact that is no longer true.

And when the catalog lives in another tool —the online store, the CRM— the source can be connected once so it feeds every channel equally: the new price does not depend on somebody remembering to upload it three times. At OnePeak that connection is the Connections extra, which our team switches on; without it, the catalog is loaded as a document and corrected in one single place.

“At the same time” is meant literally

A person with three inboxes open does not handle three channels: they rotate between them. While they answer the web chat, the email waits, and so does the WhatsApp message. Your digital employee rotates nothing: each conversation is handled when it arrives, without a queue, even when several come in at once through different channels.

It does not distinguish hours or days either. The 3 a.m. WhatsApp message gets the same answer as the midday web one, and the next day the team finds in the portal the record of every conversation —what was asked, what was answered, what is pending— regardless of which door each one came through.

What changes from one channel to another, and what does not

What does not change is the answer: same knowledge, same rules, same limits. An employee that hands emergencies to a person on the web does the same on WhatsApp and over email; one that does not give diagnoses does not give them on any channel.

What does change is who the person is on each channel. On WhatsApp your employee sees a phone number; over email, an address; on the web, an anonymous visitor, unless they leave their details. From that comes an honest limit: it cannot guess that whoever emails today is the same person who asked on WhatsApp yesterday, because the channels do not share that identity with each other. If the person identifies themselves, the conversation is recorded with those details and the team can join the cases; on its own, it does not happen.

What it does not do, so there are no surprises

It handles conversations: somebody writes and your digital employee answers. It does not publish content, does not manage the business's social accounts and does not appear on a channel that was never connected to it.

And connecting each channel is a real step, not a switch. The web chat is installed on the business's own page; WhatsApp is connected with the business's own account, authorized through Meta's official channels, and email is linked from the portal. The business decides which doors it opens and when.

  • It does not post photos or stories, and does not manage ad spend: it answers conversations.
  • It does not staff a channel the business has not connected and authorized.
  • It does not answer Instagram direct messages until Meta finishes its review.
  • It does not join a person's identity across channels on its own.
  • It does not answer differently by channel: the knowledge and the rules are the same.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to load the knowledge three times, once per channel?

No. The knowledge is loaded once and feeds every connected channel. By the same token, a correction is also just one: the fact you fix stays fixed on the web, on WhatsApp and over email at once, with no versions drifting apart between tools.

Can I start with one channel and connect the others later?

Yes. Each channel is connected separately, so a business can start with the chat on its page or with WhatsApp and add email whenever it wants. The employee is the same: what was loaded and corrected is not lost or reconfigured when a new channel is opened.

Does it know that whoever emails me is the same person who wrote on WhatsApp?

Not on its own. Each channel identifies the person its own way —a number, an email address, an anonymous visitor— and that identity is not shared between channels. If the person leaves their details, the conversation is recorded with them and the team can tie the cases together; automatically, it does not happen.

What happens if several people write at once through different channels?

They are all handled at once. Your digital employee is not a person with three tabs open: each conversation is processed as it arrives, with no queue and without one channel stealing attention from another.

When will I be able to connect Instagram?

When Meta finishes its app review, a step that depends on them and not on us, which is why we do not give a date. Meanwhile your digital employee handles your website, your WhatsApp and your email, and the day Instagram can be connected we will announce it in What's new.
